Work from the inside out!
May 20, 2024One of the vital questions I often hear from our community is:
“What should I prioritize in my recovery journey—focusing on the internal work or pursuing external goals? ”
The truth is, the path varies for everyone. Recovery offers a rich blank canvas of opportunities, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.
However, if I were to start my recovery journey anew, I would emphasize making the most of every aspect of recovery—here’s why:
-
Embracing Fullness of Life: Recovery is more than abstaining; it's about living fully, which means saving money, traveling, and enjoying freedom.
-
Overcoming Negativity: By focusing on recovery, you can find peace and joy, despite the external anger and hostility from people, places, and things.
-
Building Sustainable Happiness: True, enduring happiness comes from a balanced recovery where both internal and external changes support each other.
I spent too much time weighed down by external pressures early in my recovery. While I value those experiences, they did slow my progress. In my view, balancing focus on internal well-being and external achievements leads to a faster, more sustainable recovery.
When you harmonize your inner work with your goals, you can truly transform your life.
What would you choose to focus on if you were beginning your recovery today?
