What does success mean to you? Og Mandino (1985) said, "Only principles endure, and these I now possess, for the laws that will lead me to greatness are contained in these words. What they will teach me is more to prevent failure than to gain success, for what is success other than a state of mind? Which two, among a thousand wise men, will define success in the same words? Yet failure is always described in one way. Failure is man’s inability to reach his goals in life, whatever they may be."

What we want is to find out what your "Recovery Warrior" goals are and assist in pointing you in that direction. If you do not achieve your goal, then we have failed you. We do not want you to fail. We want you to gain twice as much as we have in half the time it has taken us to achieve our goals.

To us, your "achievement" is a major success! We are so thrilled to see what you are capable of achieving once you make the decision that you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it.

The point is that you decide your goals. You create your dreams and give yourself the power to achieve them. It's totally in your hands.

What’s the point of comparing yourself to others whose only goal is to stop drinking or using drugs? Your version of success is all that matters.

Here are five other secrets I’ve learned that will propel you into "Active" recovery if done thoroughly and honestly:

  1. Find someone you trust who will understand that you will be admitting your wrongs to them and that they will keep it confidential.

  2. Meet in a quiet place with no distractions.

  3. Allow sufficient time, be thorough and honest, and do not rush.

  4. Remember confidentiality.  If the person you share your skeletons with is a true "Recovery Warrior," they will take your secrets to the grave with them.

  5. When done, find a quiet place to be and focus on yourself and where you are now in recovery.

No matter where you are in life right now, you can totally achieve your dreams. Don’t be afraid to dream big or quit something to make room for what you really want to do in life. You are as free to live a successful life as you let yourself be.
